More than £50m worth of watches were reported stolen in London, UK in 2022, according to a Metropolitan Police FOI.

In the first six months of 2023 alone, 3,190 watches were reported stolen in the capital according to the Met – with a fifth of the thefts involving violence against the victim.

With many luxury watches having serial numbers on them – making them easy to trace – it is known that a lot of the timepieces make it out of the country to places such as Paris, Romania and Dubai.

In a BBC Three documentary, journalist Tir Dhondy explores the underground world of luxury watch thefts and how the gangs operate.

    1. “Noticed he was carrying a large machete so we kept the interview short”. 🤣
I was in London last year and a guy was mugged for his Rolex outside my hotel window. He was sent to hospital after having been stabbed. Poor chap 😢

    2. So the Word of Tate is banned in schools Basically Andrew saying Work hard be respectful think Ways how you can make money no wonder why the uk such a Failed society

    3. It's sad to say but if you're wearing £15,000-£100,000 on your wrist what do you expect? It's pretty obscene buying a watch worth that much.

    4. As the globalist's turn Britain into a giant industrial estate serviced by workers living in high density favela living conditions, Kabul will be a safer place to walk the streets than London.

    5. What a strange organisation the BBC have become.
A video about watch theives in London…. completely boring, predictable and irrelevant, just like the BBC. There's so much happening in Britain right now that deserves coverage, this is your idea of 'edgy' content.
      You're not VICE.
TV licence proposal will be the beginning of the end I dare say.
      Good riddance

    6. What I want to know is who needs a watch if they have a phone in their pocket that tells the time just as well? At this point the watch has largely lost its practical value, and is now mostly an item to flaunt wealth and status.

। ধন্যবাদ

    8. Luxury watches are all about ego and showiness. A $50 Casio or Citizen keeps better time and offers more complications than a Rolex. Showing off your wealth will get you every time!

    9. Yeah I watched about half an hour of this before smelling a rat. Interesting that the BBC can achieve what the police can't and track down and interview these criminals. Also, if they really did, why didn't they inform the police, especially when one allegedly turned up with a firearm. Nah. I call BS. Watch theft if a real problem for sure but I believe this program was just glammed up drama using actors instead of criminals.

    10. Whilst I don’t see the sense in spending so much on a watch, that’s not to say people should not be able to wear expensive goods on their person for fear of being robbed. If I was the judge it’d be ten years in jail no questions asked. It’s inexcusable. It’s not hard to stop this. Really it’s not.

    11. You can't have the richness of cultural diversity and an expensive time piece, it is one of the prices that must be paid, the arrogance of indoor plumbing must be abandoned if one is to fully embrace the benefits of other cultures.

    12. That's why I stopped wearing my luxury watches (thinking of selling them later). I just wear my seiko or casio g shock. Dont have to worry about getting mugged or getting them damaged.
