It's actually started to grow on me, but I can't see me buying one.
R1300rs though, when she comes out, that could be a winner.
So it seems to be more of a sportsbike for the pipe smoking retiree's?
I like the new turn signals until they need to be replaced, from a booboo that is. Does anyone know if switches are back-lit yet?
Looks like a Suzuki DR Big 😊
To be fair, no bike feels heavy when it’s moving. Even the 360kg Street Glide I used to have felt light… except when stopped and trying to manoeuvre it.
🤓😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻 from bc , glad you seem to like it.
Is the gearbox really that good? It seems improved from what I can hear in the audio, however that's not saying much.. John Deere tractors have better gear changes 🤣
i had a 1250 gsa the gearbox felt just like a 1978 r100rs had one of those new in 78 i thought the front end on the gsa became more and more vague the further it leant over, overall the 1200 triumph is so much nicer to use as i would never take either off road, who would when there are africa twins in the world.
Got a test ride on Monday. See what all the fuss is about. If I like will buy
Here i am on a 20 year old cb500. They can keep this bike.
Man oh man, I still ride my 09 GSA and love that old girl, rode her from Atlanta Georgia to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. I don't ride it much as I have other bikes including a 2023 R1250R (In no small part thanks to your review!). That said even though the leap from my 09 GSA to my 1250r in both tech and quality is huge. Both bikes are superb, love them but for very different reasons. I see this 1300 to be the next evolution in mechanics and electronics and to be fitting with the pattern for BMW, with their GS and GSA 1300 they have yet again mastered the world and are second to none in adventure land. I think for those that can get over the sticker shock of buying a BMW bike there is a very bright future ahead. Don't get me wrong. I am a bike whore, I have owned about every brand including Harley. I have owned Cruisers (Harley Street Glide) (Yammy VMax) Adventure, KTM Suzuki and BMW and crotch rockets Yamaha FZR Genesis, FZR EXUP, R1 to name a few. I say this as I feel I have a well rounded view of what I like in bikes and what I want to do with them. I used to be a Despatch Rider in London so I have earned my seat time, now they are for fun. With all this in mind I really feel, that BMW make the best quality bikes period. If you are talking mainstream, obviously I am ignoring MV and such, they play in a different area. I don't see this new 1300 package and the tech changes that in anyway. It only reaffirms it.
That is one ugly bike! I love my 2018 r1200 look but the front of this is terrible.
What about 1300 Rt
The GS 1300 is motorcycles' answer to what the X7 is to cars, not particularly good on or off road. They are big and heavy and are the choice for a middle-aged man with a little too much money, who already has an X5 or X7 in the garage. He will never take his GS off the road in the same way that the SUV is never off the tarmac. He thinks the GS looks good in the garage and his passion for motorcycles is limited to that. BMW are smart and have seen that this segment of the market is growing and are delivering the motorcycle's answer to the SUV. The BMW R80 GS is the last bike BMW built with adventure in mind.
Something I would like to see is a comparison between your Gsx-r and Greg's. Of course you must have done an ecu flash first and checked the suspension settings. 0-60, roll on race, lap times, much like how Revzilla did Ducati vs Suzuki
Still heavier with the same fuel than a 05 1200gs. Bmw should have done way better.
I like this I'd buy one tomorrow if I had a spare 20 grand ….sadly I'm a long way off
Gs or ktm adventure?
So overengeneered and so overpriced. And its still uglier than the Vstrom 1050. Damn !
Great review Chopsie. Thanks Bahnstromer , and looking forward to your long haul on it .
Great test, favorite line, like an Audi driver 😅
Well done for getting the scoop on this Chopsie. Nice that BMW haven't fallen into the trap of performance for the sake of it and made a gradual progression. I'm not keen in the front, but the 1250 wasn't a looker either 😅
Nice one chopsy 👏🏻
uhh that headlight.. 😖
Would you say that it feels a little 'less roomy' than 1250?
It’s only 12 kg and 24 lbs wouldn’t be noticeable as it’s only equal to two panniers being fitted. Also what effect has the gearbox beinf fitted under the engine? To my mind if the same ground clearance is quoted then the gearbox fitted under the engine means the engine is sited higher which raises the centre o& gravity which is very important in the handling of a motorcycle. Why has all the testers of this new bike not noticed or mentioned this aspect. Most road tests seem more important with gizmos as opposed to real world changes.
Nice one Chops
Can you tell me, as no one else has mentioned it, does the suspension stay low if
You want it to? The wife is 5’2 and I’m 6’2 so would be good if it stayed low for her and I could raise it for me.
they not a motorcycle anymore— just an overpriced 2 wheeled car as just as heavy and just as dear— why the hell would you want one
The European manufacturers, KTM, Ducati and BMW have left the Japanese floundering. They’re not innovative anymore….before anyone says Honda DCT…..Check how long ago that was. Competition improves the breed. BMW has to thank KTM and Ducati for pushing them to revise the GS so heavily. It’s a tribute to Ducati and KTM, that BMW HAD to do this. No manufacturer will spend unnecessarily. BM must have felt very threatened.
Great review Chops , so between the ducati multi rally and the new gs which would you choose
One would almost think you never rode a GS before (i know you have), when you say that its all about low rev and tourque and nothing happens in high rev.
Has it become a wheelie machine😂
I ride 1200gsa – this machine will wheelie by throtle roll on.
Rode one yesterday. Gearbox was not great at all, nowhere near as good as my V4S but still an improvement over my 1250. The shift is still notchy and jerky. Overall I wasn’t that impressed really so I think I’ll wait for the GSA and see what that’s like.
Does it provide any steering feel? I always get "car sick" when driving previous GSs because my senses don't match each other.
I would consider this whereas I never have with previous GS’s.
Great review as always, thanks Chopsy
This is road bias?
Is this 2023 or 2024? Written says 2023…
Would peoole say it's loud from it's engine?
Baboon backside 😂😂
More electronics more toys relates to one thing, more money. With the speckled out version coming in at well over 20 grand it's far to rich for me.
Great review Lamb chop. I've never really been a fan of the GS since the start of the 1200 days, but this could change my mind. The 1300 GS is now a sleek looking beast.
How is that even legal not to have a brake light? There's a reason why US style red indicator / brake light combos are illegal in the EU. They're really difficult to see if there's some bright sunlight etc. BMW is just going to have people crashing into their motorcycles now. Also having the indicators on the hand guards is absolutely moronic. It's an adventure bike. They get dropped at times. You break your hand guard and your indicator is destroyed as well. Good luck finding those if you're in some remote area. Then you have to botch something and start drilling holes so you can put some generic indicator on it.
Those stupid radars need to go as well. They just add weight, add cost and they're there so that they break and BMW can charge more money. Everyone has a blind spot monitor already. It's called turning your head. There are no blind spots when riding a motorcycle unless you're looking straight down.
Great initial impression video, Chopsy, when you do your longer tour on the bike I'd love to see a review of what it's like for a pillion over distance too. My wife & I tour around a lot & this bike would be a serious contender for us if the passenger comfort is there.
