AIXEMTEC GmbH is the latest Optica Corporate member to join us. Welcome to a unique global network. I’m currently travelling in Germany and Belgium, following up in person on previous conversations I’ve had at conferences. Today, my travels take me to meet Tobias Müller, the co-founder and CTO of AIXEMTEC GmbH near Aachen, Germany. Tobias explains their role in helping photonics companies scale their production, especially at the early stage when manufacturing processes need to be optimised.

For instance, sorting fragile micro-optical components is a delicate and challenging task. They are typically smaller than a millimetre and must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the optical surfaces. Furthermore, after cleaning, micro-optical components need to be aligned and sorted before assembly. To do this, individual lens orientation needs to be automatically detected. A lens-flipping unit enables the rotation of lenses. Cycle times are typically in the order of 4-6 seconds, and placement accuracy can be adjusted to the micrometre domain.

Now you have heard Tobias answer the Optica question. If you have a need, then drop me a line, and we will connect you. Onward!
