On 29th December 1962, the old Plymouth to Launceston steam train service ceased in very dramatic style during one of the worst blizzards to hit the West Country in years. Amateur cinematographer Reg Blackett was there with his 16mm camera to record the journey.

The full video has exclusive archive movie footage and photographs of the stations between Plymouth to Launceston, with footage originally shot in 1999.

    1. 75079 got sold on. Also Wadebridge after so many spent loads of hours working on and saving up money towards. Yes I visited her on the Mid Hants BUT GOT SHORT SHRIFT FROM SEVERAL CREWS HAVING EXPLAINED WHAT MANY OF US DID!!! Preservation has a huge hole to dig itself out of under current problems on some of our preserved lines. Lovely video by the way. David and Lily.

    2. A brilliant production! Just a little slip of the tongue at 29:55 – I think you mean “LSWR and GWR”, not SR. The SR was of course not formed until the 1923 grouping, and incorporated the LSWR.
