Leinster’s big win in La Rochelle was up for discussion on the latest episode of The Left Wing podcast with Luke Fitzgerald, Will Slattery and Rúaidhrí O’Connor.

James Ryan’s performance and the importance of getting over the La Rochelle hurdle were two big talking points after the game.

Munster, Ulster and Connacht all failed to win while Jack Crowley’s game time with Munster got particular attention.

    1. Yr man is assuming that Crowley is now the starting 10 for Ireland. I don't think that is a foregone conclusion at all. As well as he is doing at Munster, he is largely untested for Ireland and hasn't had a run or any significant performances really for Ireland. I would say that Frawley/Byrne/Byrne will have as big a say in this, and it does make more sense I think to have a Leinster 10 playing for this Ireland team, given the make up of the team and the style of play….

    2. Great analysis as usual folks. I do struggle with the reoccurring wide video above the lower third in these YouTube videos though. Looks like the video of the three lads is stretched so wide to fit the graphic a the bottom. Reckon it’s a simple fix?

    3. Sometimes o Connor can talk ballocks what was he watching Leinster got more rub of the green from the ref ? Skelton cheating at every ruck, the obstructions, the forward pass for Dante’s break at the end, multiple penalties that should have been given to Leinster for holding on at the breakdown..

    4. Since I was Knee High To a Grasshopper, in Rugby Union there was a "Captain" who played out in Lalaland 12 – 15ish with loads of time for analysis, and a "Forwards leader" who was Head in space where a builder wouldn't put a Brick , who was also allowed to get clarification from the Ref. The Captain was in fact the only person who could take a dispute to the ref and the Forwards Leader could be told to refer it to the Captain if it got heated, and it worked. In the school of dark arts the Forwards Leader always drilled in on the Ref about the way the opposition were making a fool of the Ref and bringing the game into disrepute etc. Usually the Ref would lose his mind, tell them both to shag off and deal with the Captains only. But, Usually by that stage (as James Ryan did on Saturday), the smart Forwards Leader will have backed off before the other guy leaving the Ref with an overall positive attitude towards his Captain. This is not new, but Ref's have stopped listening to ANYONE in the Forwards unless they are Captain, hence two Captains, I understand the idea came from a Referees' Conference after the "Captain's referral" debacle during Covid.. This is a good thing as Captains need space to think, not possible in the core of the excavation works, and Ref's need to know what is going on in the Furnace.

    5. They took the shots at goal frawley after the van der flier turn over was smart enough to manage the game out and legally waste time on the shot and scored it giving Leinster an edge in tight games and taking points

    6. We don’t have any real depth in the props… Healy isn’t at the top level any more. We really need to see some big young guns coming through. Give the academy props free reign to the buffet and fridge haha

    7. If connors gets back to the form that get fellow blue scrum cap Beirne those man of the matches for Ireland in the cov19 days we are on to a winner.

    8. cian healy sits on bench again for most of match…….. whats the point. Porter scrummaging is so worrying, how is he not getting it after this long! Healy still has so much to give and lack of game time for leinster and ireland is awful. I genuinely don't understand it.
