John decided to close out his 2023 racing year at the fearsomely competitive Telford 10k. Could he improve on last year’s showing when he finished second to last in Wave 2 in a time of 44:32?

What would 2023 bring? Some improvement surely?

The Telford 10k is advertised as the fastest 10k in the UK

    1. Well done John. Always good to be chipping away at the times. Don't you find these days a season's best kind of feels like a PB ? I think a lot of that course is an old railway isn't it? Not a race have ever done or even ran there. I had a period few years ago where breaking 40 stop happening but managed to turn it round so hope you can too. Maybe you need to join me in some indoor races though 🙂

    2. Well done, still a solid run. I did this race last year and had a similar experience- didn’t get what I was looking for and slowed down after the fast start. I may well do it again next year.

    3. It was a great strategy to run with a fast wave to push yourself. 41:32 is a awesome time. Even splitting is great. If you drop 5lbs like you mentioned you probably will be sub 40. It sounds like Telford is a very fast course. Your training strategy since last year is working

    4. Congrats John, cracking effort and a great result. Well done for sticking at it and with better conditions I bet you would get nearer to that sub 40. Good set of reflections with the EBI's too 🤓

    5. Congratulations John on a really good, solid performance. Massive improvement on 2022 and a good confidence boost to end the racing year. Think you were very much in your 'A' game, rather than B+.
Sorry Dawn wasn't able to run but fantastic support as always. The way you back each other is absolutely brilliant.

    6. Nicely done John, absolutely smashed it! Top stuff. Looking forward to what you (or should i say you two) have up your sleeves next. Any marathons or halfs planned? By the way, I loved the Spongebob reference at 5:08 haha

    7. Well done John, great run and loved watching this blog. I was in wave 2 as well and had a very tough day at the office. I think Telford is actually tricky to pace correctly and very easy to get it wrong through the first few k and then really suffer for it. I actually think Trafford is a faster course personally.

    8. Congrats John, the year on year progress shows that your efforts have been paying off and no doubt you can further improve next year! I saw some runners' photos and it looked like they had done a cross country race, so it does indeed look like the conditions were not perfect.
