When I took my driving test back in 1982, driving examiners hardly spoke to the candidates. They were not allowed to make any conversation during the test. At the end of the test, examiners did not even give a debrief or an explanation of how the candidate had performed. They’d just hand over a copy of the test report and a copy of a booklet that was supposed to help explain why they’d failed. It definitely did not put me at ease, which is probably why it took me three attempts to pass. Luckily, things are a lot different these days.

    1. Talking with the examiner helped calm my nerves a lot. It made the exercise feel more like a normal drive around than a driving test. Passed first time with 6 minors.
