What is our bike of the year, and why should anyone care about these awards given out by cycling magazines?

The Enve Melee makes its way into the pro peloton and we do a cycling YouTube deep dive with STEEP STREETS and training vlogs.

We are taking Expressions Of Interest to work with the Nero Show in 2024, feel free to reach out at info@nero.bike if you are interested.

    1. Disagree re the Merida not being cool. Love it and the Reacto even though I am currently riding the new Cannondale Supersix Evo. Also 99 bikes sell them as well as BMC but only in mid to low tier models.

    2. "Look at these (morons) doing a best bike of the year and picking the SL8"
Then go and pick their own best bike of the year. Shrugs. Why do you dump on people and channels then literally do the exact same thing on the back of the dump? Genuinely?

    3. The Giro, Tour and Vuelta were not won on the Cervelo S5. All the decisive moments were in the mountains, were they were mostly riding an R5, or in time trials.

    4. Jesse/Chris – Re: Zwift.
Guys l think you are both not riding the best parts.
Workout on Zwift are not the place to be. Races, Locations, Events and you can ride against yourself.
Suggest you try thinks other that the plain workout. 😊

    5. with enve i think maybe they will have pros for testing their new products or new frames or TT bikes they can produce and they will have first hand testers with brand promotion but we will see … i think enve melee is one bike but probably they are secretly creating new ones

    6. Did you guys saw the documentary of Tour the Tietema, nice insight in a conti / pro conti team and you guys are mentioned. Greets from the Netherlands

    7. You can easily stand up using ERG mode. You just have to change to a harder gear right before standing up (2-3 clicks on the cassette), just as you would do on a real climb. Once you are seated again, you just change back.

    8. I’m confused about the dissing of the Enve Melee as a race bike. The SuperSix has a shorter reach and higher stack, and that seems to be a well received race bike.

    9. Funny how distraction works
. For me 2nd lap of Centennial and I am so bored I have zero motivation. 30 min of swift similar state of mind. 2hr ProRides or sufferfest in Erg mode has me totally focused and chuckling along.

    10. Truth be told….I bought an CF SLX8 and its been lights out the most fantastic bike experience I've had going when showing up on the group ride and feeling super confidant. This coming from riding the 05' Team Machine SLT01 [ Stars and Stripes Phonak Livery ] Team Machine. My only gripe is that I feel like Canyon upsales ya on the power meter from 4iii which immediately stops working in less than 3 rides. I can't train with power unless I go out and buy $1k speedplay peddles (wahoo). I've always trained and raced with Speedplay so there's no discussion with switching peddles because I'm boa-legged and Speedplay was the only peddle that worked for my knees. Having a power meter built into the price was the final lynch pin on my pull the trigger moment, when I did my online purchase. The bike has been pretty awesome. I dont mind tightening the headset after a few weeks. It actually helps me stay on top of the maintenance for the whole bike. The power meter has been a big disappointment. I did all of the tricks I read online with flipping the battery, and such and just no longer sends signals even tho the light on the crank registers but my app and my headunit are unable to collect data. IT SUCKS. I'm fortunate that I can train well with heart rate.

    11. I’ve got a genuine question here … Do either @Chris Miller or @Jesse Coyle have any marketing background?

From the outside looking in, it would appear neither does. In their words they are “marketing pundits” not really experienced marketers.

I love the podcast, to the extent I’ve been inspired to start my own. But I’d love to step in and give these two a marketing experience perspective.

Keep up the good work and keep the perspectives coming!!

    12. The Merida is definitely a dark horse. The sparkle in the black paint is decent, but….
And this is where my nostalgia kicks in as I have a 2010 Cervelo S2 Red and its just over 15lb with alloy wheels.
The new Soloist is just a thing of beauty to me, and the black paint is amazing, and its only a few grams off from the Scultura 9000 frame.

I think they're fairly close in performance. The package is slightly better appointed with the Merida, but I feel like if I were to own the Soloist, it would be the bike that I hold onto. One of the bigger factors for me is the tire clearance. Yes 28c is fine on the Merida for the warmer weather, but here in Belgium when it gets wet and muddy, cobbles and such on the small farm roads here in Wallonia….the ability to equip 34c tires even opens it up for those times when I do want to get it off on the dirt roads or light gravel. Not that I will have it to replace my gravel bike….my everyday tires even now in Dec of Belgium where we've already had snow, I run the 5000S TR in 30c and considering the new Gatorskin in 32 or 34. With the mud, rain, potholes and wet cobbles….more contact patch really matters!

    13. What's basic is campaigning out the content. If you're a big brand making videos, you don't just chuck it up on You Tube and hope people find it organically – you feed it though all your social channels, you get it out to your entire database in EDMs etc. You have it on your website, You get it out there. That's the difference between 5K and, say, 500K. views and that's where the value's added, for the brand, and the brand fan. Some are quite good at it… 101.

    14. I don’t get that you are going to dish out big dollars for a new bike and I cannot choose my crank arms length or the width of the handlebars. Which are always too long and too wide for me in my frame size of 52cm. That make choosing a big brand bike a No Go! I’m coming to terms that I have to become a fully capable mechanic and do my own build. Isn’t that crazy?

    15. re indoor training discomfort. Why not use a rocker plate? Plenty of DYI solutions and commercial products. A bit of fore-aft and side to side movement mitigates pain in the butt.

    16. I would hate Zwift too if I did the structured work outs! To each his own, but the game changer for me on indoor was the interaction or in Jesse’s words “distraction” that group rides and especially races offer. Structured workouts are going to be miserable in the trainer no matter what so you may as well them on your Garmin and watch Netflix or something, and ride Zwift the fun way! If I had to do structured workouts every time I rode I would just quit cycling…

    17. 51:52 Nobody does it because it’s a fractured system. Marketing and Advertising are two separate functions.

Brands align themselves with Agencies. Agencies align themselves with publishers. Consumers align themselves with platforms/sites.

Giant doesn’t decide how their money gets spent, they decide how much money to spend.

Giant’s agency then decides which publishers it wants to work with. They do so based on what’s called first party data.

Publishers collect first party data and build lists of audiences. Any user on my network as a publisher has declared “you can track me” and trackers are then following those users everywhere and reporting back.

A user on my Publisher network can visit another publishers website but we both know as publishers “this person like bikes”.

This is what drives advertising spend. Confirmed users who have an interest we want to convert to an intention to buy.

Man I love when you guys have these rants but I wish I could sit down with you and explain the whole thing as an industry insider. How YouTube works and the digital marketing space as a whole.

      End of rant

    18. I couldn’t source an Ultegra 8000 rim brake groupset locally so i took the punt at Ali Express (from the recommendation for my local bike shop) and it turned up 2.5 weeks later all legit and good to go.

    19. Agree with you that VC's train like a pro videos are great. He is one of the best cycling youtubers, but we always have to remember the GOAT, Durianrider.

    20. The Enve melee is not an endurance bike lol, its a race bike. Maybe look at the geometry table first, its almost identical to a bmc teammachine slr

    21. On the ERG mode, you just need to shift up like 4-5 gears to stand up. It just adjusts the trainer resistance in response to the power input you are turning. So rather than slowing cadence and waiting for the trainer to catch up, slam it up 4 or 5 clicks and stand up without letting the pressure come off the pedals. It just takes a bit of getting used to.

The off the shelf Zwift workouts are hit and miss, mostly I find Zwift best for just racking up endurance k’s in a very safe and consistent environment. It’s also pretty good for really clean well structured interval sessions, again without any external considerations like weather, traffic, hills etc…
