In the early morning of April 9 1940, the Danish army are alerted that the Germans have crossed the border. At the Southern border, the Danish Home Guard are ordered out to hold back the enemy until the Danish reinforcements can be mobilised.

Nothing inherently wrong with bicycle units.
Quicker than walking and they cover more ground. The Japanese used them to speed down the Malayan Peninsula and completely wrong foot the British Army stationed at Singapore.
