Chad’s already ridden the new BMW R 1300 GS, he tells Chris all about the new bike. In part 2, it’s Chris’ turn to send it!

    1. As I’m an old short arsed git I moved to a V2S Multi after three GSs, love it but may be tempted back as they seem to have addressed the issues that always annoyed me. Personally I love the new look and here’s hoping it’s a lot easier to clean, my 1250 GSA was an absolute pain. Seems to me the perfect tool for the lovely roads of Northumberland and the Borders, I’m a lucky man😉👍

    2. I like the looks. It's going to be interesting how many of the new model we see out and about. Most Gs I see on the road, are 10+ years old.
Something else I spotted, the local dealer is taking the demo fleet up to bike meets to get them in pictures and people talking about them. When a bike is as well known as the Gs, I don't see why they would need to do that. No other dealer does.

    3. Brilliant lads, thanks for that. I am undecided, I don't get why all the tech? It's a adventure bike and I don't want tech crap to go wrong. I live in Oz and sometimes 200kms from a town, and I can tell ya it's a massive pain in the A when you don't have reception and you breakdown on a GS. Ya can't push it to the next house or town.
What is the idea of lean angle? I know when I am leaning hard when my boot scrapes (secretly love it, I know I'm having fun).
So I really appreciated this upload, but still not sure.

    4. BMW's website spec the front suspension at 190mm travel. If this is correct its asphalt territory in Africa. No matter how good the quality of the suspension 190mm of travel will not be enough for our environment with just the rider forget about with a pillion and camping gear. One of the amazing things on the 1250 for me are the way it carries extra weight of gear and pillion in all conditions. My range dropped with about 60km + per tank from the 1200LC to the 1250. Now we up again 50cc and I know new tech and bla bla…but I never experienced a bigger motor that's lighter on fuel. To make it worse we lost 1 liter in the GS model. So maybe this is not serious in Europe but in Africa range are very important. With the 1200LC GSA I got easily 500km + on a thank. The 1250GSA I battle to get 500km and normally closer to 450 if we careful. My point is that if BMW will decrease the thank on the new GSA as well I could possibly look at maybe just under 400km range for the new GSA. Decreasing tank size are cheap weight saving solutions in my books. I understand that the new bike are better on road as well as more sporty. The thing is, a GS for me needs to be a Land Cruiser not a BMW X5. My 2c

    5. Looks to be a very good bike – and I think it makes more sense than the old GS1250. Clearly, BMW are chasing a younger audience, to which they may succeed. I simply don’t think this motorbike needs all that tech’. No denying it’s an accomplished bike, but all the technical assistance, for me any way, reduces the pleasure of the ride. I want to know I’ve got the skill to ride that motorbike safely and competently off my own steam. Yes, I get heated grips, varying seat heights, a nice tft dash and even cruise control for touring those big miles….but that’s it. I think I’d actually be happier with a less competent Guzzi V85TT, but happier.

    6. What I also not understand is that they spend probably a couple of million developing a radar system for the bike but the most important thing is to visible to other vehicles not true? So please just add a proper tail light that when I have to slow down in thick fog or a rain storm other road users can see me and some hooligan with a truck not take me out. I mean even the cheap cars have that extra red rear fog light.

    7. Not sure that I agree with the statement that the GS has never been the best handling. I’ve owned and ridden a shit load of bikes, but my old 1150 never fails to impress me in that department, especially in the twisties.

    8. Can you clarify the manual windscreen position?
I saw you tilt a level to change its position. Does it have only up and down positions or can you micro adjust it? Thanks

    9. Now that you’ve ridden it Chad, full spec including luggage is close in price to Multistrada Rally. Taking the price out of it then ……. Which one would you choose ? ( the killer question 😂 )

    10. I'm only 27 and recently got a 2019 1200 GSA TE Triple Balck. Recently rode the 1300GS, it's a nicer ride and faster. Wind protection is shocking, though. But is it 8k better than my 2019 1200 GSA? NOPE. Only looks a mother could love. It sounded awful. Only people buying this new V Strom lookalike, are those that can chop in on PCP or those than want to wave their dicks around at local coffee shops for bragging rights.

For those that go, "Yes, but it's lighter. Easier to move around". If you struggled moving the 1200/50, it isn't the bike for you. Man up.

Each to their own, I voiced my view on the GS group and many agreed. This bike has gone down the sporty route, which it was never intended to be. It's smaller, lighter, faster. Not what a GS should be.

If i wanted fast, I'd choose the Ducati or KTM before the GS1300.

Stay safe, and have a good weekend.

    11. I like Chris’s description of active damping, active preload and actual spring rate changes.

However, I have a question… “How does it change the spring rate?”

If anyone can explain I’d be thrilled! Thanks 🙏

    12. The GS was never a beautiful, nor even pretty bike. But this is straight the ugliest bike I’ve seen in quite sometime. Looks like a cheap chinese copy of GS.
