Look man… You do videos about one of my GREATEST interests!! Namely Pro vs Casual. Ima Sub!
no he wasnt a sport no one does had to have 7 better rowers so he could win then 3 others etc did he win by himself
I will try this next in the gym. I’m a 7:30 2000m rower so 1:27 500m may be tough
I kill the first 250 meters but the next 250 meters is when the oxygen depravation kicks in and my split time jumps up nearly ten seconds.
You don't tell us nothing about the resistance .an important factor.
For context, the first 500 meter is the most easy part of the 2k hahaha. When preparing for the 2k a common preparation training would be 6x 500 meters with 3’ rest. All on your intended 500 meter pace
I loved watching this. We have a challenge board at our Gym for this. I was currently leading but have been knock of the top step with someone doing a 1:28. I'm 120Kg 32%bf and can do 500m in 1:32.3 so watching these fitter people and a different techniques makes me feel if I can get my body weight under 100Kg I should smash this. Thanks for sharing 🙂
So there up to 10 resistance on the concept rower, did you say which one the challenge is done at, 10 I'm thinking?
I do 6:25 for 2000m
Steve Redgrave was incredible. His fitness increased right into his 40s
What is the dumper setting for this challenge?
First learn to row
Proud to say my late father (one of the most humble and softly spoken blokes) had a 2 km PB of 6:40… at the age of 62! He used to race at the British Indoor champs and Redgrave and Pinsent would put on a bit of an exhibition race t the end (with Pinsent ending up with his usual faint in the last stroke 😂). Dad would turn a horrid shade of grey in the last 200m but absolutely loved his ergo.
30 years and it’s still rapid. But amazing how two people in your gym were able to do it over the 500!
Content creation but comparison doesn’t exist
You’re technique is wrong. On the forward stroke, your hands should pass your knees before you bend them.
As a 56 year old Cornish pilot gig rower, I’m stoked that I can still beat that erg challenge. To be fair though, it takes a lot of time on an erg to get efficient and also endurance fit. I’m not surprised many of the fit gym guys failed, as it’s not something they particularly train for. It’s all about the repetition and building the engine. Great video 👍
"Any tips?"
"Yeah, Row Fucking Fast" 💀
I can't make my Concept 2 go at 1.27 pace at all …. not even for 1 second 🙁
I am a fit kid , I think but that rowing is another level, but with rowing the bigger you are the better.
what was the resistance level set at ? 10 ?
This question might not be relevant, but why didn't you just put in the 500m distance instead of the time as a challenge?
I do look at most of these people and think wow their form is terrible, but I don't mean that as an insult. It just means they're working harder for their numbers.
20 years ago as a college rower I absolutely could have beaten this challenge no worries, though forget about the full 2k at that pace. Now as an out-of-shape middle-aged dude, I honestly reckon I'd still come close. I've still got the technique and the strength to make a Concept 2 show sub-1:20 no worries (at least briefly), and I /might/ be able to push through far enough to make the 500m at sub-1:30 pace before collapsing. Might.
On a related note: next time I get a chance on an ergo, I'm definitely giving this a go.
Thank you for your sharing
its funny to watch this from a rowers perspective
My qs is i can see they all performed on the 8/10 setting, how much harder is it vs 10/10 as i tried a 500m row on 10 and only eeked it to 1:37. Very tiring
Rower in the comments here, not talking about poor technique but talking about the guy who almost held under 1:20 for a little more than 500 meters without formal preparation is bonkers
I would love to know…..whether a huge and fit non rower will always be more successful than a very competent technical rower of a lighter weight…..on the ergo. The examples shown here suggest that this is the case? Sir Steve is / was a very exceptional and experienced rower / sculler and of course HUGE in height and weight…..hence his great success. Some of the co-ordination of body movement of some of these ergo fanatics suggest to me that they could be far more efficient if coached re actual high performance rowing skills? FYI I am an ex-rower /sculler octogenarian but not familiar with erg use! Comments?
Any tips for staying on the seat better? I never actually fall off but i have to slow my rythem down because I'm half off it.
What resistance settings on the rower?
George had nice form to start
So did bottom left guy at 9:43
Your video came up randomly so had to have a go… well done good challenge 🙂 (1.25 @ 48 😅)
I have a water rower, cardiostrong model, and I row (seemingly) as hard as these people do, even higher frequency, but never made a 500m in less then 2:15.
Maybe resistance is higher on this one? Actually i did a 2:10 once , but at very low frequency (about15) and very strong push off with the legs.
But at + 20 frequency, can't do.
I reckon Wilson could do it next time knowing he was only a few metres away.
there was a 17 year old at my rowing club who did a 6:11 2k, some people are just built different 😅
Remind that Redgrave rows a 1:27 pace for 2000m straight. His 500m pace is probably way faster. Maybe a 1:18 or something.
1:24 pace is 590 watts, wow
What is the rower set at the the dial I want to try this myself
What’s the resistance set at please
as a rower i can confirm that many of these people row
i am like 13 and my pb 500m is 1:38
This is now our work challenge. 🎉
