Unable to start my engine as my service isn’t finished yet. Fellow boaters come to my aid and tow my Narrowboat across the canal to the towpath. I take my little rescue dog Bonny to Pets at Home to get some winter gear and once my engine is up and running I start my cruise back up North to avoid all the winter stoppages. This takes me to Fradley Junction where I leave the Coventry Canal and turn left back onto the Trent & Mersey Canal and up the canal locks there. After an 8 hour cruise I moor at Handsacre and enjoy the local food – Fish, Chips and mushy peas.

Thank you so much for watching. If you are new here, I’m Heidi and I live aboard my Narrowboat The Rum Wench and travel the UK’s Canals in search of Adventure. After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion – my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Pirate Boat.

    1. You and your rear entrance always reminds me of the lady who went to see her doctor saying she was having trouble with her rear entrance. The doctor immediately said (without an examination) Aha! I see the problem; as long as you keep calling it an entrance instead of an exit your symptoms will persist! Bum Bum! I'll get me coat…..

    2. I have a long haired miniature dachshund call Arthur and to keep him warm we use kiddies tops and jumpers, a lot cheaper the clothes at Pets for You. He has several jumpers and t-shirts which are so easy to wash and dry. Love your blogs, keep them coming.

    3. How much has it cost going from one side to ur winter destination ? and good luck with the winter time now, during winter can you moor in one location longer than 2 weeks ?

    4. I was going to ask you if you had mushy peas with your chippy tea. Thanks for showin us. I really like making mushy peas, even though I cannot get the proper (marrowfat) dried peas here in Canada anymore. (just those awful instant ones).

    5. Hi you don’t seem to sail very far! The myth of a flat world is this true on the canal? When are you inviting Johnny Depp over for a film shoot of pirates of the flat water canals? Can a sil be hoisted on the boat if the engine conks out or is this a problem with the bridges?

    6. I really have enjoyed your channel, It is something I feel tempted to do myself but having watched a few other channels on the subject, I'm a bit concerned about being safe along the tow path, as some of the boaters have said they have had issues with yobs etc and feeling very isolated. How have you found this? Keep up the great channel.

    7. Just subscribed, videos are great, especially when I recognised the stretch with shooting signs passing through Hopwas woods (I live local and that was my play ground as a kid, many moons ago). Been watching a lot of different content on narrowboats, really making me want to take the leap to living on a narrowboat 🙂

    8. Bonjour Heidi je suis nouveau venu sur ta chaîne et je découvre tout un monde superbe d'entraide de simplicité et camaraderie merci pour ton enthousiasme et ta joie de vivre😊

    9. Came across your channel quite by chance, and just wanted to say thanks. I am a life long boater, having spent a couple years cruising the world with my kids many years ago, and owning boats continuously since then. Since covid started, I have been in Ukraine, first as I didn't want to travel while the world went stupid, and to ensure our iT company here in ukraine ran smoothly as it supports my whole company around the world. The war broke out, so now I am here to ensure our staff and my friends are all safe, and have what they need, without being conscripted into this disgusting proxy conflict. I have had to pay a number of bribes for exemptions and to ensure even those I couldn't exempt are kept in desk jobs a long way from the front. So your channel has become a diversion, and I am slowly going through old videos. Despite having travelled the UK extensively, I wasn't even aware of the sheer scale of the canal system, and it is fascinating to watch. Thanks again for your efforts, they are appreciated and I will one day bring you a carton of rum. In the meantime I will figure out how to support your work and do it.

    10. New subscriber!! Oh I envy you!! What a wonderful free life you live! Hard work I'm sure but its what i'd call real living. Cant wait to follow your adventures ( catching up at moment ) much love

    11. When I first started watching you, made me think of my Dad. He was a Merchant Marine in WW2, he would tell me stories about being at sea. One of the ships he was on was the "Rum River."

    12. Part of your dogs intensity towards other dogs is your paranoia vibe that they feed off of. I know they have their own vibe but if you're worried about something they know it and want to protect you from it

    13. It’s obvious that you and Bonny were meant for each other. I love the way you have bonded and the way you care for her I have two little Chi dogs and would be totally lost without them. Have a nice warm winter together. Steve

    14. Hi to you and Bonny! I love watching your videos, especially the scenery. I'm from Oregon in America – no canals here, just ocean. My friends from Norway are visiting London right now & sent a picture of a sign "Barber's Headcase. Drinking Rum Before 10 a.m. Makes You A Pirate Not An Alcoholic". I thought of you immediately!!

    15. Love the video, as always. It great that you will be near your family for Christmas, mind you, I'd be off to Llangollen. Because of your videos and Ben, Emily and Alan's videos, I went there last month! It was fantastic!

    16. If you were giving a prize for the best ditty, this one would take first prize. Just a thought: I have seen a couple of boats use an electric outboard that they clipped on the side for reversing, very slow to get going but more controllable. How delightful Bonnie looked modelling the clothes. Great episode. Thanks for the warm feeling it generated.

    17. So lovely to see your latest video Heidi & Bonny and really looking forward to your travels in Europe with Polly – we have a Polly too, a 1990 Eriba Puck so good choice of name!! All the best to you and gorgeous little Bonny xxx
