In July, after 4-months of sitting idle in lock-down, I found myself in need of a little adventure… so I set out to Cycle & Camp across Belgium 🇧🇪 … from the French 🇫🇷 border, across Belgium, and over into the country of Luxembourg 🇱🇺 . The adventure took 6-days and 428 KM of relentless pedaling.

    WHY CYCLE ACROSS BELGIUM?
My rationale for this seemingly irrational trip was threefold…

    1. Belgium is ‘Home’ 🇧🇪. Although I’ve been away working and traveling the world 🌎… Belgium has been my home for the last 10-years. My parents live here and I have my bedroom here. On-and-off, I’ve spent more than 1-year living in Belgium… so I thought why not get to know my backyard… and so I borrowed my Dad’s bike and hit the Belgian cycle paths 🗺.

    2. I love cycling 🚴 and I enjoy the freedom that comes with camping 🏕️… so I thought why not merge both interests and go on a slow, sustainable, and socially distanced adventure. Cycling across a country has been on my Bucketlist for quite some time… moreover I wanted to prove to myself that I do not need to travel to a distant country and culture to have a rich experience.

    3. The onset of COVID brought many things in my little world to a halt ✋. I found myself out of work and locked-out of the UAE 🇦🇪 (where I had been living)… I felt some cycling and solitude away from all negative news could do me no harm.

    1. Thanks Conrad good video & congratulations on achieving your goal. Ok as you say many spend multi days on the road but what you achieved is no mean feat either. Just in case you don't know of it Crazy guy on a bike is a great Forum for cycle travellers. Stay safe.

    3. Great videos mate! I lived in Luxembourg for 8 years, left in 2012 so this brought back some amazing memories… we went to most of the places you mentioned by car, but also kayaking around Dinant, hiking along the Meuse, an epic snowball fight in Bastogne… Well done for your trip!

    4. Hello, this great! love that you don’t shy away from ice cold river baths:)) what camera did you use? I will leave for a bike trip as well and thought it s time to get a camera to build some memories:)

    5. Freedom and exploration are the two things of long distance trips like this that give me a buzz. I love seeing the changes in crossing countries/regions. The idea of it being a bit crazy is part of the appeal but i think that its only crazy to people who would never bother doing these things.

    6. Finished your two parts of cycling vlog. What a life. I respect your adventures along the world. I have been living in Belgium for four years but I still learned from you. And always admire Belgian languages gifts. Hope you doing great in the future!

    7. Found your video looking for nice cycle paths in Belgium. I live in the UK but I'm From Africa (Zambia). I've cycled in spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and France and having seen the cycling infrastructure in these places I find myself really surprised we don't have more cycle paths in Africa where we are building new roads yet most people can't afford a car. Anyway, I'll stop waffling and get to the point… Could you kindly share a video of some of your work in Africa? Thanks

    8. I've done a 38km trip this year 😂 started cycling in Belgium this year, but originally from South Africa where I never cycled. The distance you travelled seems crazy to me 😂
