Part 15 of my series about the history of Britain’s railways. This episode covers the period from 1959 to 1970, a period which aw widespread withdrawal of steam engines from the network, the end of tram networks across the country, but most importantly, the report by Doctor Beeching, which led to a third of the network being shut down.

All the drawings accompanying this series have been done by hand, with pen and pencil, over the course of several weeks, and then simply edited together.

    1. 16:28 Yeah, no, absolutely would not happen.
Who would even think of regularly parking their car at a station far from work, from home, you'll be a mile away while your automobile gets vandalized.
We must all ditch the airlines and car industry for an Entente of carts, bicycles, horses, sail boats/ships, buses&trams on overhead electric cables or horse powered, canals, railways, paddleboats, and ocean liners
      (cruise ships don't conut)
for the ultimate future of travel as we will win this fight against the clean shinny cooperate–cough-utopia that they tried and failed to create as far back as the 1920s.
One day i hope to build a railway of my own, one that takes burnel's 7 feet gauge and make it around twice as big for the main purpose of moving canal boats/barges from one river to different watersheds, it is crazy but ill mentally die allowing the world be the way it horribly is at.
