BMW R1300GS vs R1250GS (R 1300 GS Trophy, R1300 GS Triple Black, R1300GS Option 719 Tramuntana) in this direct side by side test / review and comparison which took place over 3 days, I have had the opportunity to compare the outgoing R1250GS Rallye (my own bike) with the new R 1300 GS in its base Light White option, but it was fully loaded with almost all the optional extras available in the catalogue.

Sadly, the weather was not brilliant during these 3 days of testing (constant rain and wet roads) but this gave me an ideal opportunity to really see just how good this new R1300GS really is, used in real world condition that “us” GS owners normally ride our motorbikes.

Simply put, it’s an amazing motorbike that has really improved over the out going R1250GS which many of us own and ride… and I really like it !

I highly recommend going to your local BMW dealership and booking a test ride. Just make sure the dealership you use FULLY understands all the options and accessories and packs that can be fitted / ordered so that YOU have the best chance of ordering the perfect motorbike, in the right configuration for your riding requirements.

This is just Part 1 of a new series of episodes that will cover all the new aspects of the new design along with in-depth technical reviews explaining the new technologies and especially how YOU can get the best from your new R1300GS.

If you have any questions, just leave me a comment and I will reply…

Hopefully you enjoy the content I create, so by Subscribing you are letting me know, that you appreciate the effort and time I invest in creating these episodes, and it also helps to grow and develop the channel.

    1. I dont underatand people who say they wont upgrade from the 1250 because of the headlights. Those old headlights were absolutely hideous and the new ones look so much better imo.

    2. One of the best video comparisons of the R1300GS and R1250GS. Have a R1300GS on order and have watched a LOT of videos. This one of the best, so thanks for all the work you've done to put this together. I know it's not easy.

    3. Engines always evolve. But the bike for me is ugly! It does not represent what a GS is. Definitely its front and lack of stop lights is a big mistake. Not even cars have radars as big as this motorcycle has. A shame!

    4. The gas tank is a liter less and the battery is lithium, check out the price of a replacement battery 😱 and the end can is from Ali exspress . Have to disagree on many points Carl , the price ing is tooooo much bmw ! I have a 1250 gs superb 👍

    5. Very informative, especially about the driveshaft. Personally I prefer the look of the 1300, I'm not a 1250 owner, so I suppose I'm the target audience – the 1250 looks functional , the 1300 more integrated.

    6. If youve never thrown a leg over a BMW and have a Dual Sport/ MIddleweight ADV background, would a used/leftover 1250 still be a good option? My wife said she might buy me one next year when she gets a bonus at work, but as someone whose never been spoiled by a larger bike I may not know what I am missing if I save money on the older model.

    7. Thanks for the excellent review and attention to detail so lacking elsewhere. I'm a 2023 R1250R owner and of course very interested to know when the new drivetrain makes its way into other models!
