Solar energy is one of the most abundant renewable energy sources and effective solar technologies have a great potential to alleviate challenges of satisfying rising energy demands, while reducing the associated emissions. Of particular interest in this context is the solar combined heating and power systems based on advanced hybrid Photovoltaic-Thermal (PVT) collectors, which offer an attractive option that is more reliable and less costly for domestic applications.

This study will present a comprehensive analysis of the energetic, economic and environmental potentials of hybrid PVT based solar energy systems for combined heating and power provision. Case studies will be conducted for 26 European countries with different solar potentials. In addition, two types of solar-based combined heat and/or power systems have been compared comprehensively to the PVT solar system, namely: a PV power system and a solar-thermal heating system.

This presentation aims to provide valuable guidance to determine the optimal design of solar systems for each scenario, and also to make contribution to the further development of solar energy systems for their domestic applications in different countries..
