Huge fire rages at Luton Airport and all flights suspended at car park.

Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire at Luton Airport has been “stood down from a major incident”.

He said there are “just shy of 1,500” vehicles in the affected car park.”

He added the car park does not have sprinklers, and if it did they “may have made a positive impact”.

    1. I get it about lithium battery fires not even fazed by water sprinklers, but how is it even possible a parking garage can be built "to code" without fire sprinklers? Is that even a thing? I honestly don't know, but I thought a fire mitigation system would pretty much be a mandatory and default element to this construction?

    2. Sprinklers no use with an explosive battery electric car better to ban ev's from multi storey's tunnels & ferry's but of course that wouldn't make the greeneyzz happy!! Better to ban ev's all together and jail the instigators of this mad & thieving agenda!!! Owners of ev's you have been warned I watched a family burn to death in one last year no accident car just came to a stop locked it's doors & spontaneously combusted!!! Keep a glass hammer with you @ all times!! I won't travel in an ev without one!!! 🇮🇪👌🧐

    3. Sprinklers should be mandatory in all public buildings, hotels, assembly halls, Dancehall libraries. Any public building should be sprinkled, and that include car parks.

    4. Unless they fit sprinklers that can spray powder or CO2 you ain't gonna put out an electrical (battery) fire with water mate. (Oh but we can't possibly use CO2 coz that's not carbon neutral!)

    5. Stop EVs immediately and all this fake climate change emergency rubbish! EVs are destroying the environment through lithium and other exotic metals needed mining. Enough of this wef co2 climate scam. The battery tech isnt safe or suitable for the public yet

    6. Tells you everything about the airport apart from what actually happened. See a clip it looked like the ceiling fell in don’t park your EV anywhere near your house. Will never buy one as they’re a death trap very unsafe. And burning an EV is saving the environment right?

    7. The car is a hibred . Battery car. diesel would not burn like that. The fire service have lied and also the media. The fire was intense due to other battery cars catching on fire. Do not leave children in a battery car for any time.

    8. The fake news hiding it was an electric car & this has been happening all over the world & those batteries mixed with water cause more damage.MSM is not your friend lies lies & more lies.

    9. "Sprinklers may have made a posi'ive impact…." hes a grown man but he still doesnt speak English properly.

It's one of those quick-build steel girder car parks, so some bits will need to be unbolted and replaced due to heat damage, especially now that the Government has conned so many people into buying EVs, which are about 50% heavier than liquid fuel cars.

    10. No sprinkler system? So there was no facility to spray water onto burning electric car batteries. Talk about putting out fire with gasoline, as Bowie once said.
