As the Road World Championships came to a close last week, the cycling season is winding down, but there’s more excitement than ever in young star, Remco Evenepoel, and not just from the Belgian public. Dan Lloyd talks you through why some are linking him to a move to Ineos Grenadiers, and what this could mean for his current team. We also round up all the racing from this week, as well as some transfer news.

  1. It's still early in Remco's career, but at this point I'd point to Boonen as Quickstep and Belgium's most recent superstar. Remco has a long way to go to equal, much less exceed, the accomplishments of Boonen and Merckx.

  2. 6:00 you simply cannot have a bike race in Zagreb…for starters they would have to get rid of all the cars parking on the side of the road…since there is not enough space, nobody would move their cars and the authorities would collapse, then there are the tram rails, then there are (not only in ZG) these nasty 90 degree turns…Organizers were left wanting in this year's course design

  3. Time to organise a celebration that GCN+ is finally going to be broadcasting all shows in NZ. My suggestion is to hold it at the Good Union in Cambridge NZ where they make specialty beers and ciders, and have big screens. If you bring the crew there’s good gravel roads, mountain bike trails, and obviously sealed roads with in a couple of hours, not to mention the velodrome about 10mins away from the pub. Something for all!!!

  4. Remco is a Belgium National Treasure and mustn't be allowed to join a team owned by someone that campaigned for Brexit and then moved to Monaco, not to mention his fracking business.

  5. Thanks Dan. I think Remco will stay for another year just to see how things play out and then he'll consider his options. Potentially interesting thought- will Nairoman continue his own GC ambitions with another squad or be a super domestique? Just that I can't see him winning another Grand Tour.

  6. Many years ago I was visiting my sister in Brussels and was surprised by being invited to a dinner her company was putting on. The guest of honour was the great Eddy Merckx and I was fortunate enough to meet him and have a few photos taken with him. I still love cycling and whilst I have my favourites, Evenpoel is fast becoming a firm fave of mine. Maybe it will soon be time to visit my sister again and see if she can arrange something.

  7. Brailsford was just getting some cheap headlines for something that's extremely unlikely to happen. Lefevre isn't stupid. They'll bring in whatever bonus or team structure is necessary to keep him.

  8. It's still bizarre that Quintana is taking his tramadol case to CAS. I haven't heard anything yet resembling a winning strategy. Would have been better for him to just say he needed some time off the bike to properly heal from some painful injury and let it go at that

  9. I went to watch the Giro Dell'Emilia, and was surprised not only by the Women's parcours, but also the shocking difference in prize money; the women had a prize of 930 euros compared to a 7,500 euro prize for the men. What do you think?

  10. As much as I am British I hope Remco stays at Quickstep and not make the move to Ineos. Think a move to Ineos would ruin him.
Btw Dan, what is that monster coffee machine on the shelf behind you?
