After issues in Loughborough earlier this year and about to travel further north through GREATER MANCHESTER and into more urbanised areas we decide a SECURITY review is essential.
Will it cope with our SECURITY needs onboard BORDER REIVER
Our cruise this week takes us from the quiet sleepy village of Lymm through the centre of Greater Manchester where we meet Jac’s niece Zoe & her fiancé Danny who try their hand at our LIVE ABOARD LIFESTYLE when they take charge of BORDER REIVER!!
We see the wonders of the BARTON SWING BRIDGE and the MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL mooring for the night in the pretty village or WORSLEY. Jac explores the WORSLEY DELPH and learns all about it’s connection with the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
Finally we see the worst life in our OFF GRID FLOATING HOME… tune in to see how we get on.
Thanks for watching.
Jackie & Michael xx

Arrr me hearties another brilliant video. Thought something was going to happen like when you were told to clear off but fortunately nothing did.
Altringham? you mean Altrincham? 😁😁😁 great vid guys and hope you're both well – great to see the familiar surroundings of my hometown – Tom xx
I assume that the herb was cannabis aka marijuana. I think I heard that it's legal in the UK for medicinal purposes. BTW, just letting you know that "Altringham" is actually "Altrincham". One of the quirks of northern pronunciation.
We "went" this way last week with "Floating our Boat"! What a beautiful place Worsley is!
Jacq, could I make a suggestion as I don't like missing either the interesting sights or the info. Wondering if it would be possible for you to voice-over the information rather than typing it on screen.
I play it twice so I can read it and can willingly carry on doing that 😊
yet another Great episode! really love the fact you go into the history of canals and explain who was who in making them!!
Some lowlfe boater emptied their shit bucket in to the bin bag you cant beat a compost toilet.
Looks a good secure knot used for tying up to that mooring ring – is it a bowline?
Homegrown lettuce, perfect anytime of day. Wonder if it goes with cornflakes?😅 lots of love to you both as always xx
I've had a Reolink Camera on our Boat for a year or more. Lots of preferences in the App to ensure detection and notification when absent and of course audio to any miscreant! Langiage for that normally Anglo Saxon and Loud! Have a good Winter. G. NB Happy Days.
herb of the day is ganja man
Well done to hubby for phoning police, anything suspicious should be investigated – dog or otherwise you never know, it should not be ignored.
Oh be Jesus.. bodies in the water 😂 it’s not me.. I haven’t given in yet lol. Dog.. my worst nightmare 😤 biggest tragedy of life is people to dogs. Keep up the good work 👍
i love those older industrial building which have perfect residential type proportions and shapes. Can you stash the rubbish in the weedhatch till you can dispose of it?
As always loved your blog. Always interested, sad about that package in water. Where you guys from originally?
We usedto moor for a short time at that marina the one with the pub by the side of it in Boothstown whe they dug it out they found about 6 sunken barges an a silvery blue Volvo 340 the car was in better condition, Appologies for sounding like a smarty but a Flash is another name for a lake great vlog stay safe. 😊
Hello Jackie and Michael mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode but really sad to see what was in the canal hope you are both well and I will look forward to your next episode xx 😊😊
Another enjoyable video thank you, some years ago we did a tour boat trip right along the full length of the Manchester Ship Canal from Manchester to Liverpool and then came back by Coach. It was so interesting and the size of the canal and depth of the locks was amazing. We visited Pennington Flash a few times last year by car. It is very beautiful and so many birds there around the lake. Thanks for keeping me entertained 😊
I literally had to think about watching this when the intro showed the floating bag. Cruelty to animals is so upsetting for me. However as always a fantastic video and I thank you. At my age you would think I would be more stoic, but I’m not. Have a great week and thank you. I just closed my eyes when you cruised by the bag, thanks for the warning.
Your vlog is so helpful! The description of narrowboating being like driving for 3 to 4 hours was useful. We are looking to do a narrowboat rental trip next year and your insights are very helpful!
So sorry to hear you use bad language. We’re out…
👍👍Australia 🇦🇺
Bet you're glad you don't rely on sail power, what with that wind!
On the subject of wind, it was quite windy up here in the North East recently.
This kid went flying past me, screaming his head off in terror because of the wind.
I yelled at him, "Let go of the Kite, Son!"
Weed…. It smells disgusting ,, carnt stand it…
Need a sail on that boat!
Some stunning scenery & photography in this video. So many people miss this by not realising the canal is just the other side of the bushes/hedge. Worsley is such a pretty village & surroundings, steeped in canal/mining history – glad you enjoyed this part of the North West/Cheshire. 👍🏻
Jaqueline, you need to follow Zoe’s tip and wear a pony tail in windy weather.. you waste energy keeping your hair off your face!
Hi guys, here in Australia, three hours it’s nothing behind a wheel of a car , many times I drive from Brisbane to Sydney in one hit the longest drive ahead I had for awhile was from Brisbane to Deniliquin, which was 1440 km from Logan city. Anyway, keep up the good work. Love your Videos , Cliff from Logan City, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺🧑🏾🦽
Well done for phoning the Police regarding the Bag.
Unfortunately these days it could be anything.
Sadly people are abandoning their Cats and Dogs or disposing of them because they can’t afford to pay for them to be rehomed !! Many of the Shelters are requiring £150-200 per animal as a condition and contribution before they will accept a animal ( bit strange when you consider people are calling the RSPCA Shelters etc because they can’t afford their Dog or Cat anymore !! ).
Sadly it’s always the Animals who suffer the most from this Cost of Living Crisis situation and some people are struggling with the bare essentials for their pets, like Food.
We would Love a Dog but I cannot justify firstly spending out £1000’s on what we used to call Heinz 57 ?. But you have to consider Insurance and possible Vet Fees and not just the Food.
My Children are the most important ( and they cost enough lol 😂 ).
Another great video ❤
Well done on such a gusty day's you had and some lovely places you have visited sorry last part spoiled your day 😢
that was a funny swing bridge lol
Pennington Flash lake is the result of a depression caused by mining subsidence being filled with water. Always enjoy your content.
He looks so like his Dad, the way he stands and moves ! Nice to have family for company sometimes !
"I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." Who said that famous line?
To visit my sisters I have to drive 12 hours straight. I usually take a break at Lake Eufaula State Park in Oklahoma. Go for a swim and such. I haven't visited my brother in Phoenix, Arizona just yet but that will be a two day drive at least and probably three. Retiring at the end of February and am looking forward to taking my sweetie-pie with me Phoenix, through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. AMAZING place, Colorado. Been there many times as a kid camping and fishing. Looking forward to this trip so very much.
The evil weed. Marijuana.
A windy early cruise and a sad ending. I pray if it was a dog, it wasnt thrown in alive. people do these things and think nothing of the suffering. I hope you reported it anyway. Great scenery and pretty towns.
Hi Jackie & Michael
Another great video with lots of history and some great cruising, totally agree about getting tired at the tiller, it's hard work standing there for hours on end
Take care both of you
Lots of love
Jane & Martin.
Love your vlogs, so interesting. Thank you
As police say if you suspect it report it and let them decide if waste of their time
Ah yes I remember that windy water spot on a corner on the Bridgewater canal. WE had a similar experience…always windy there it seems and a challenge to get alongside or depart. I do hjope you get a chance to look about Worsley some day. Its a neat spot and there's a water point there too. Not many of those on the Bridgewater. We also visited Manchester several times and really liked the place. good moorings but the Rochdale 9 are a challenge. I so enjoy your weekly videos.
😊hi guys am I dreaming jaq you said that the bridge would swing I'm sure it lifted 🤔 anyway that Tudor building wàs beautiful to see did you find a watering hole 🍺🍾😲 at the end of the day or was Michael making brownie points with a 🍽️ tonight 🙏 jaq anyway thanks for the 🎥 take care all the best John 😊
ganga man
Weed
Why did you not stop and fish the bag out it could of been a baby wrapped in a fur blanket or anything I couldn’t of just left it as you know the police will not care at least you would of got peace of mind but that’s me I’m very soft and caring and would not of got it out my head it’s sad enough passing poor animals that drown as it is but at least you can see what it is. 👍
A sail away sounds cool , can do the outfitting myself , must check for costs . Thanks .
Not many comments about the herb you smelt 🙂 Possibly be found in a ' tea ' .
Smell can really shock you . Once got the scent of a lady before I saw her exit her house , 50 m away 🙂
I still remember Bill and Ben the flowerpot men , they had a lovely friend 🙂
As such , dead bodies float for a while , being in a plastic bag does not help .
Many many years ago they found the body of our Maths teacher at school , into his 80s I think , an avid walker , ended up in the canal around Solihull .
