Create Maps with Google My Maps – Part 1 – Core Features

    In this 3 part master class series of which this is part 1, we explore a very useful data visualization tool called Google My Maps. Google My Maps because its been around for many years but not many people use it or even know about it. Google My Maps is a great tool to learn – its easy to use, very fun and you can utilize it to narrate visually compelling stories on maps. You can create cycling routes, plan trips, locate geotagged photos on a map, put environmental data on maps and do preliminary visual analysis to site business outlets and do competitor assessments. Health professionals can use it to map disease outbreaks. These maps can also be used for disaster management showing locations of shelters, relief camps, medical centers etc.

    Google my Maps is completely free and you can use it to display , point, line and polygon data on a base map and satellite image and share it with anyone. It is also useful for educators who can create interesting collaborative assignments using this online tool. You can also show your project locations on a map with photos for CV or for team discussions.
